If you think that waffle Irons are strictly for making waffles you are missing out. I used to think the same thing until recently I drug my waffle Iron up from the basement and after using it I was too lazy to take it back down and put it away; so I did what any normal person would do and planed me weeks menu around it (haha). So today I am going to show you a few neat recipe ideas for using a waffle iron. I am not going to go into too much detail with the recipes because they will be pretty self explanatory. I think I am going to keep this a running post and every time I get a new fun & creative way to use a waffle Iron I will post here and share so you don’t miss out, although I could change my mind tomorrow…. we shall see 😉
Idea #1.) French Toast
For this all I did was scramble some eggs (2) with a little bit of cinnamon and sugar, dipped my bread in the egg mixture and put it in my handy dandy waffle iron… it was really good!
Idea #2.) Ham & Cheese.
Using a thin crust pizza crust in one of the cans that pop, like Pillsbury (by the way, am I the only one that either pee’s themselves, jump’s, or scream’s every time I open these?). Cut into squares, I will show you how below, place ham on one side and cheese on the other. put them together like a sandwich and cook in he waffle Iron till done.
Idea #3.) Pizza!
For these you can do them one of two ways. #1 you can cut the dough like up above and put pepperoni, cheese, (any pizza topping you like really), sauce, and cook till done in waffle Iron. Or if you are like me and want to make a mess so you can make them pretty and cut them into sticks you can do it this way..
** The reason these are messy is because the dough expands more so it will come out the sides of the waffle Iron. When they are finished cooking I take them out and run a pizza cutter around the dough that has not cooked (dis-guard this dough) and cut them into these cute little sticks.
** I like a little bowl of sauce to dip the sticks in when they are finished.
Idea #4.) Pesto, tomato, & Mozzarella cheese Sandwich
This is for all my pesto fans out there. In my opinion pesto is one of those things, you either love it or hate it. I happen to love it.
For this sandwich, spread pesto on one slice of bread, and on the other slice cut 2 very very thin slices of tomato ( lay tomato slices on a paper towel and blot out as much juice as possible or your sandwich will be very soggy) , and a piece of mozzarella cheese cook in waffle iron till cooked.
