Dollar Tree Summer Pillows

Dollar Tree Summer Pillows

Dollar Tree Summer Pillow

Outdoor summer decor does not have to be expensive. I found these cute drawstring bags at the dollar tree and decided to turn them into pillows for my porch. I bought 16×16  pillows for them but you could always save some money by using the cotton from an old pillow. You could also go to the dollar general and buy a cheap pillow for this project.

I’ll be honest, I’m horrible at sewing. I prepared my pillow and gave it to my mom to sew. She used a certain type of stitch that made it look like there’s no seam. I will show you a picture of the one a sewed myself as long as you promise not ton laugh.. haha.

Materials:

  • Drawstring bags from Dollar Tree ( 1 bag makes 1 pillow)
  • scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • 16×16 plain pillow ( You could also take the cotton out of an old pillow)

Step 1: The first thing you need to do is to cut all of the string out of the bag. Make sure to ONLY cut the string! If you cut the bag you will ruin your pillow.

Step 2: The next step is to stuff the pillow with the 16×16 pillow or the cotton from an old pillow.

Step 3: Now, take a needle and thread and hand sew the top of the pillow shut. I am not good at sewing so I had my mom do this one for me. She used a certain kind of stitch that made the pillow look seamless. Once you are done you should have something that looks like this!

This makes the perfect summer-time  addition to my porch! I may pick up a few more bags to make some more.

Here’s a picture of both pillows sitting next to each other. I sewed the one with the pineapples.. you can see how that seem looks more pinched together than the one my mom sewed.

Regardless of my ugly seem, I think these turned out super cute! If I make more I will definitely get my mom to sew them! LOL
