Snowmen ( Made from empty cans of chew)

Snowmen (made from empty cans of chew)

Due to the amount of money my husband spends on chew, I have been trying to find ways to recycle the cans. Last week I showed you the Christmas Candies I made using some of his chew cans. This week I’m showing you how to make these adorable Snowmen Ornaments. I am so in love with these! They’ll look great on the tree and they will also make super cute and inexpensive Christmas gifts! Your friends will never know these cuties were once an ugly can of chew!

Materials:

  • Empty Chew Cans
  • Coffee dyed T-shirts or Muslin material
  • Material for hat ( You can use anything from an old coffee dyed flannel shirt to an old coffee dyed T-towel)
  • Twine
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
  • Puff paint ( Black & Orange)
  • Blush ( If you don’t have any on hand check the Dollar Tree!)
  • Q- Tip

Step 1: Clean the Chew cans in some dish soap and let dry

Step 2: Wrap the chew cans in coffee dyed muslin material. I cut mine in about 15 1/2″ x 15 1/2″ squares. Wrap the cans twice so the brand of the chew doesn’t show through the material.

Step 2: Cut hat material about 20″ x 20″. Using a hot glue gun fold and glue the hat at the bottom to make a small lip. Then use the hot glue gun to attach the hat. I like to stuff a little piece of napkin in the hat to give it a little puff. Then use twine to tie a bow. Trim any excess material above the bow. ( After making this I decided to add a jingle bell to the hat. I just slipped my twine through the jingle bell, pushed the bell to the front and tied my bow.

To make ornaments:

  1. Make a loop out of a piece of twine and tie a knot on the end.
  2. Hot glue the knot in the hat.
  3. Tie Bow.

Step 3: Use Puff paint to draw on eyes and nose and let dry for 24 hours. I would practice doing this on a scrap of paper first. I’ve found the easiest way to get the perfect nose is to squeeze the puff paint and draw a line that slightly curves up.

Step 4: Dip a Q-tip in some blush and apply in a circular motion for some rosy looking cheeks.
