apple squares

  Ingredients:

foil

9 Apple slices (core apple and slice thinly on mandolin)

1 sheet of Puff pastry  ( thawed)

1 Tbsp. Butter

4 Tbsp. Brown Sugar

1/4 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

** Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Line a cookie sheet with foil and spray with cooking spray.  Unroll puff pastry and butter like you would a slice of bread ( about 1 Tbsp.). Set aside. In a small bowl mix 4 Tbsp. Brown sugar and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon. Spread onto buttered puff pastry. Lay apple slices on top ( I do three rows of three). Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.  When apples square come out of the oven allow them to cool for about 5-10 minutes and using a spatula take apple squares off of cookie sheet and on to a cooling rack, if you do not do this they will stick to the foil. Let cool completely cut into squares and drizzle with glaze ( optional).

Glaze- I really do not have a recipe for the glaze, I am just going to explain how I make it. I usually start with 1 cup of powdered sugar then I pour milk in till it thins, I also add cinnamon and 1/2 a tsp of vanilla and whisk everything together. If it looks too thick add some more milk, if it looks too thin add some more powdered sugar.

** This makes 9 squares. Since puff pastry normally comes in a pack of two it will be easy to double this recipe. 🙂
