Cement Candy Corn Yard Ornaments
These Cement candy corns are fun to make and will be a great addition to your fall decor. Because they are made out of cement they are durable enough to use both inside and outside. I have made 4 of these and plan on using mine randomly outside in amongst my flowers.
Materials needed:
- Cement ( I like to use a fast setting underlayment, It’s a little more expensive but I like that it sets within minutes of pouring.)
- cheap plastic bowl
- cheap wooden spoon
- water
- Traffic cones from the dollar tree
- cooking spray
- paper towel
- sandpaper
- paint ( white, orange, and yellow)
- paint brush
- tape
- cup
How to:
Step 1: Add cement to a cheap plastic bowl. Then slowly add water and mix until the cement is a slushy-like consistency.
Step 2: Flip traffic cone upside down into a cup to keep stable. Spray the inside of the traffic cone very well with cooking spray.
Step 3: Pour cement into a traffic cone until even with the top. Using a paper towel dab off any excess cement. Allow drying overnight. As soon as you are finished pouring the cement, rinse bowl and spoon right away, unless you plan to throw them away. And whatever you do, DO NOT rinse in an indoor sink or down any drains. Rinse outside using a hose only… Unless you want a visit from the plumber.
Step 4: When the traffic cone is dry push edges of the traffic cone down to help release cement from traffic cone. Flip upside down and give a few taps till the cement pops out. You will have something that looks like this:
Step 5: Use a piece of sandpaper to smooth down any rough edges on the bottom of the traffic cone.
Step 6: Tape top and bottom of the traffic cone and begin to paint. Once the paint is dry you are all finished.
