Christmas Lights Framed Decor | DIY Craft Kit Tutorial

Hey friends! Today I’m going to show you how you can take these little wooden light cutouts from our Christmas Fun Box and turn them into the cutest farmhouse-style Christmas lights framed decoration. This project is super fun, beginner-friendly, and adds a festive handmade touch to your holiday décor.

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Wooden Christmas light bulb  cutouts (from the Christmas Fun Box)
  • A pre-made wood frame (I got mine from Walmart)
  • Acrylic paint: Blue, green, and red (or any of your favorite colors for Christmas lights!)
  • Brown Truffle Waverly Chalk Paint (Walmart)
  • Metallic silver paint
  • Makeup sponge or paint sponge
  • Sanding block
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • Floral wire (coated, Amazon is a great place to find this)
  • Bow maker (I used my Bowdabra)
  • Twine
  • Fun holiday ribbon
  • Greenery sprigs
  • Red berries
  • Rusty bell

Step 1: Paint the Christmas Lights & Use a sanding block to distress (optional)

Start by painting each wooden light cutout in your chosen colors—I went with blue, green, and red. My green paint was a little watery, so I gave it a couple of coats. Let them dry completely. I like to use my hair dryer to make them dry faster.

Once dry, I gave my light bulbs a light sanding to give it a worn rustic look.

Step 2: Paint the Tops of The Lights

Next, paint the tops of each light with Truffle Brown Waverly Chalk Paint (from Walmart).

Once dry, use a sponge to dab on some metallic silver paint. This gives the tops that rustic, silvery texture that looks aged and farmhouse-style.

Step 4: Add Wire And Hot Glue The Light Elements To Your Frame

Cut lengths of coated floral wire and wrap them around the top of each light. Twist to secure and form a loop in the center to connect them together. I hot glued the middle light down in the center of my frame first so I could line up the other two evenly. Curl the wire ends around a paint brush handle or pencil to create fun little spirals.

Step 5: Make the Bow

Grab your bow maker and create a playful bow using twine and holiday ribbon. I usually go rustic, but I wanted something bright and fun here. Once your bow looks how you want, tie it off with twine, trim the ends, and hot glue it onto the lights.

Step 6: Add Greenery & Berries

Tuck in a bit of greenery and some red berries around your bow for extra holiday flair. Glue them in place and hold until secure.

Step 7: Final Touches

To finish, glue a rusty bell right in the center of your bow. This ties the whole farmhouse look together. Even though I clipped my ribbon ends a little shorter than I’d like (oops!), it still turned out absolutely adorable.

Display & Enjoy!

And that’s it! These farmhouse-style wooden Christmas lights make the perfect holiday accent for your mantel, shelves, or tiered tray. They’re quick, budget-friendly, and oh-so-cute. Let me know what you think in the comments, and if you try this one, I’d love to see your photos!
