DIY Block Angel – Craft Tutorial
Let’s turn one of the tumbling tower blocks from Five Below and some hearts from our heart pack into a beautiful angel!

Supplies:
- One tumbling tower block or Jenga block
- One wood bead
- Two hearts from our Wood Hearts Pack
- Acrylic paint (Red, Vintage White)
- Antique wax, Blending Tool , and baby wipe for applying
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Blush for cheeks
- Spanish moss for hair
- Wire for halo
- Small strip of fabric or ribbon for a little bow
- Sharpie pen
- One little wooden button
Step 1: Paint the Hearts for Wings Red
So the first thing we’re going to do is paint the hearts red. I’m using my go-to red color, Flamenco red. I just love this color! We’re going to go ahead and give the hearts two coats of paint to have a solid vivant color. You want to make sure you dry your pieces in between each coat.

Step2: Sand & Add Antique Wax to Hearts
Now that it’s dry, I’m going to use some sandpaper, and give them a good scuff for that rustic look that we love so much. Next, I’m going to use the Dixie belle antique wax and just go around the edges and over the heart a little bit. We have these blending tools that come in very handy for many of the projects we feature here on our blog. Let the hearts dry as we move on to the next step.

Step 3: Stain Tower Block and Wood Bead with Antique Wax
Next we’re going to come over the tumbling tower block (or Jenga block) with antique wax, applying it with a baby wipe. And I also have this little bead that you’re going to need. And we’re going to do the same thing with that. Just add some antique wax with a baby wipe.
Step 4: Paint the Angel’s Body White, Dry, & Sand
Next, we’re going to use this vintage white color paint or whatever color you want to use for the angel’s body. Give it a good coat. Once that’s good and dry, we’re going to go ahead and sand everything, giving it an antique rustic look. That’s the reason that I stain first. I love the different colors that come through when you stain it, then paint it and then sand.

Step 5: Assemble the Angel
Hot glue the head of the angel onto the body and add the wings to the back. Hot glue those in place.

Step 6: Add Embellishments
Now that we have our angel built, we’re going to go ahead and embellish it and make it look super, super cute. Add your own creative touch here!
I added the word “LOVE” with stamps and ink the body. I also added a little bow using some material that I got at Hobby Lobby and hot glued it to the base of the head just to cover up the hot glue.

Step 7: Add a Face
Next, we can use some blush to give our angels some cheeks and give it a little bit of a face here. I used a Sharpie pen to give it some eyes.
I decided to add a little wooden button in the center of the bow.
Next, I added a little bit of Spanish moss to the top for some hair, securing it with hot glue, and gave it a little haircut.
Step 8: Add Wire Halo
Lastly, we’re going to take a little piece of rusty wire and add a halo.

Then for my angel, I thought it needed something down below just to bring out that color from the top, so I just added a little patch down below. In the video below, you can see two different ones that I made. They turned out so cute! Let me know what you think and if you plan to give it a try!
