DIY Bumble Bee
Watch me! – YouTube (Coming soon!)
So far for summer 2020 it seems like bumble bees are going to bee (LOL) all the rage. I’m totally on board with this trend as I think bumble bees are just the cutest! Let me show you how I created this cute bumble bee using a few embroidery hoops and a set of bumble bee wings from the Dollar Tree. Let’s get crafty! =)
Materials:
- Bumble bee wings ( I found these at the Dollar Tree with the girls dress up toys)
- 1 – 4 inch embroidery hoop
- 1 – 8inch embroidery hoop
- 2 zip ties (You can find these at Dollar Tree)
- Waverly antique wax (optional)
- Burlap
- 2 back pipe cleaners
- 2 yellow pom poms
- 2 tiny black buttons (I think google eyes would look cute, too!)
- 2 larger black buttons
- Ribbon, raffia, and twine for the bow tie
- Q-tip and blush for the cheeks
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
Step 1: The first step is to stain the embroidery hoops with the antique wax. This step is optional, but I do think it adds a little something extra to this cute bumble bee.
Step 2: Next, Cut two piece of burlap slightly larger than the hoops. I cut two pieces for each hoop. When I added inly one piece I could see through the burlap and I didn’t like that. Once you cut the burlap then insert it into the embroidery hoops. This takes a little muscle but it does work! I found it easier to loosen up the embroidery hoops first, apply, the burlap, and then use a pair of pliers to tighten it up.Once you get the burlap in, trim it down with a pair of scissors.
Step 3: Next, use the zip ties to attach the embroidery hoops together. It will be a little wobbly but this is totally fine. When you go to hang it it will stay in place, promise!
Now it is time for the fun stuff! Let’s decorate this guy! It really does not matter what order you do these next steps in. I’m pretty sure I witched them up each time I made one of these cute bumble bees.
Step 4: Lets work on the face. Add two little buttons for the eyes. I used black buttons but I think small google eyes would look cute, too! Then take a Q-tip and apply a small amount of blue to give this bumble bee some rosy cheeks. You all know I love my roses cheeks, lol!
Step 5: Gather some ribbon, raffia, and twine to make this adorable re-fabed bow. Once you make the bow you can glue it between the two embroidery hoops.
Step 6: Glue two big buttons in the center of the larger hoop. I think this makes Mr. Bumble Bee look sophisticated, don’t you?
Step 7: For the antennas take a piece of pipe cleaner and push it through the back to the front. Then take a pencil and curl it. One of my amazing followers suggested I use pom poms for the top of the antennas and she was right! how stinking cute is that?
Step 8: For the stinger I just folded a black pipe cleaner in half and glued it to the center bottom of the bee. This was another amazing suggestions from one of my followers. You all are the best! <3
Step 9: The very last thing to do is to glue on those cute bumble bee wings from the dollar tree. Just glue them to the top of the larger embroidery hoop. Pro tip: Before gluing your wings down make sure they are right side up! During my Face Book Live I glued them upside down, LOL.
