DIY Candy Corn Shelf Sitter Sign | Craft Kit Tutorial

Hey friends! Today we’re making something sweet, rustic, and totally perfect for fall — a DIY candy corn sign! I’m using pieces straight from our Fall Fun Box to create an adorable candy corn sign that can sit so cut on a shelf or you could add mounting hardware or twine to hang it on your wall. This is a beginner-friendly project that’s quick to make, but will give your home that warm farmhouse charm we all love.

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Candy corn & frame cutout kit (from our Fall Fun Box)

  • Acrylic paint: White, Toasted Terracotta (orange), King’s Gold or Golden Sunset (yellow)

  • Waverly Antique Wax

  • Baby wipes (or whatever you like to use for applying wax)

  • Sanding block

  • Wood glue

  • Paintbrushes

Step 1: Painting the Candy Corn & Inner Background Frame

First, I started with the candy corn cutout and gave the top section a coat of white acrylic paint. While I had my white out, I also painted the inner piece of my frame (the space around the candy corn) so it would match.

Next, I came in with orange paint (I used Toasted Terracotta from Hobby Lobby) for the middle section of the candy corn—just following the engraved lines that make it super easy.

Then, for the bottom section, I used a cheerful yellow—King’s Gold or Golden Sunset are my favorites—both work great! Make sure each section is nice and dry before moving on.

Step 2: Distressing the Frame

Once the candy corn was finished, I turned my attention to the outer frame. I used Waverly Antique Wax and applied it with a baby wipe for a soft, rustic finish.

After the wax dried, I grabbed my sanding block (you can find these at Walmart, Lowe’s, or other hardware or craft store) and lightly went over everything to give it a slightly worn, distressed look.

Step 3: Assembling the Sign

Now for the fun part—assembly! First, I glued the outer frame down to the base. Next, I added the candy corn in the center, almost like piecing together a puzzle.

It was cute as-is, but I thought it needed a little extra charm—so I decided to paint on some polka dots for a playful touch.
