DIY fabric heart
Friends, I am just loving how this DIY fabric heart turned out. Its one of those crafts that turned out even better than what I had imagined. Not only did it turn out super cute, but it also cost me hardy anything to make! I love these types of crafts.
Next time you are at a thrift store I highly recommend checking out the mens dress shirts. I found this grey and white one and knew it had to come home with me! I will get tons of crafts out of this one shirt!
Ok, enough chit chat.. lets make this heart! Below is a list of materials you will need to get started. If you scroll to the very bottom of this post you will find a link that will take y0u to my YouTube channel where you can watch this craft being made. I would for you to subscribe while you are over there!
Materials:
- Fabric – I used a mens shirt from good will!
- Poly – fill
- Ribbon
- red raffia
- dowel rod – Dollar Tree
- Antique wax
- Spanish moss
- Thick wood-slice – We cut this down at my parents house, but you may be able to find something at a craft store.
- drill
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
How to:
Step 1: Double the fabric and fold it in half. Cut out a half heart shape so you will have two full hearts that are the same size. I didn’t do it this way in the video tutorial, but I should have! It would have made it much easier.
Step 2: Hot glue the edges of the heart together to form a pocket. Leave a 2 inch gab at the bottom, this is where we will stuff the heart.
Step 3: Stuff the heart with poly fill to your liking. Shove the dowel rod up the center of the heart. I stained my dowel rod with antique wax to add something extra. Once the dowel rod is in the heart, hot glue the bottom of the heart together firm to the dowel rod. The dowel rod should be in the center.
Step 4: Hot glue some ribbon around the edges of the heart to give a clean look. Start the ribbon at the bottom tip of the heart and finish there too. We will cover up where the ribbon meets in a minute. I suggest using a fluffy type ribbon like what I used. I even think the chunky blanket yarn would look cute!
Step 5: Tie a simple bow out of the red raffia. Hot glue it to the bottom of the heart where the ribbon meets. Hot glue a button to the center of the raffia.
Step 6: Drill a hole in the middle of the wood slice and insert the dowel. Secure it with tons of hot glue. Add some spanish moss around the base of the dowel for a cleaner more finished look.
