What You’ll Need:
- Hazel the Bunny Shelf Sitter craft kit
- Stick Fast ( Affiliate Link)
- Acrylic paint: vintage white, khaki, pink (vintage rose or similar)
- Sanding block
- Putty tool (Affiliate Link)
- Antique wax
- Sponge applicator (Affiliate Link)
- Small paintbrush or paint marker
- Twine
- Mini bow
- Small faux greenery and florals
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
Step 1: Assemble the Hazel Bunny Base
Start by gluing your three wooden cutouts together. Since they’re all the same size, simply stack and align them neatly before applying wood glue. Press them firmly together and let them dry completely. This will make Hazel sturdy enough to stand on her own!

Step 2: Paint the Bunny
Once the glue is dry, give the entire piece a coat of vintage white paint. Be sure to cover the front, back, and edges for a seamless look. Allow the paint to dry fully before moving on.

Step 3: Distress for a Rustic Look
Grab your sanding block and gently scuff up the edges and surface to give Hazel that charming, worn-in look. After sanding, take some khaki-colored paint and use a putty tool to lightly dab it around the edges. This technique adds a lovely depth and mimics the look of chippy, aged wood.

Step 4: Add Antique Wax for Extra Charm
To enhance the rustic effect, apply antique wax around the edges using a blending tool or a soft cloth. This step gives Hazel a beautifully aged appearance, perfect for farmhouse-style decor!

Step 5: Paint the Ears
Now for the fun part—adding some color! Using a sponge applicator, lightly dab a soft pink paint (Vintage Rose works great!) onto the ears. This will give Hazel a sweet and delicate touch.

Step 6: Detail the Accessories
While the bunny dries, apply antique wax to the tiny Hazel tag and her adorable glasses. This step ties everything together with that vintage, rustic charm.

Step 7: Tie on the Tag & Bow
Once the accessories are ready, tie the Hazel tag onto the bunny using twine. Add a cute little bow for extra flair. (My camera cut out during this step—oops! But don’t worry, it’s just a simple tied bow.)

Step 8: Add Hazel’s Face
Time to give Hazel some personality! Use a pink paint marker to draw on the nose. If the color is too bright, tone it down by layering with a pencil or another soft shade of pink. Next, add a tiny mouth and whiskers. (I’m still perfecting my whiskers—so no judging! 😆) If needed, lightly sand them for a softer look. Finally, glue the glasses in place.

For the eyes, dot them with a paint marker and then add a little white highlight to bring them to life. You can also add a tiny accent to the nose for extra cuteness!

Step 9: Final Touches for your Hazel Bunny Shelf Sitter
Let’s give Hazel a floral crown! Using hot glue, attach small sprigs of greenery and florals to one ear. This little detail makes her even more adorable!

And that’s it—your very own Hazel the Bunny shelf sitter is complete! She’s rustic, charming, and ready to brighten up any space.
