DIY paper towel roll snowman
Hey, friends! I have been wanting to make this cute DIY paper towel roll snowman for a few days. I didn’t have an empty paper towel roll, so I took matters into my on hands and emptied the roll myself, haha! Although, I would recommend waiting … I was just a little too impatient, LOL.
For this craft I will be using some of the chunky yarn that I bought at hobby lobby. This yarn is a little on the expensive side, so I suggest waiting until it goes on sale or you have a coupon to buy it. I didn’t have either so I did end up paying full price for mine. Next time I see this chunky yarn on sale I definitely plan on stocking up! It is so cute and so fun to work with!
This snowman would be a perfect craft to do with the kiddos. Although, I would recommend elmers glue rather than hot glue, so they burn themselves. I think the kids would have fun wrapping the yarn around the paper towel roll. You could also have them find some cute sticks from the yard to add as arms! These snowmen would make the cutest gifts for teachers and grandparents!
Let’s get started with this fun craft, shall we?! Before we do, let me give you a quick list of the materials you will need to complete this project.
Materials:
- Empty paper towel roll
- Chunky white yarn
- Some sort of a base – I bought a pack of circle cut outs in the craft section of Walmart for this.
- Stain or paint for the base
- Scarf
- wood bead or tooth pick for nose
- 2 black buttons for the eyes
- 3 larger black buttons
- Hat – I bought a top hat ornament at dollar general, but you could make your own hat out of material.
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
How to:
Step 1: Let’s make a base to sit the snowman on first. If not, it will be top heavy and tip over. To do this, I glue stained a few circle wood cut outs together and stained them. I found these cutouts in the craft section at Walmart. They only cost about two dollars!
Step 2: Starting at the base of the paper towel roll, start hot glueing and wrapping the chunky yarn around it until you get to the top. Make sure when you start the bottom is even or it won’t sit right on the base.
Step 3: Next, add a hat. I bought a top hat ornament at the Dollar General and hot glue it on. If you can’t find one of these top hats, just make a hat out of some material. It will look just as cute, promise!
Step 4: Now let’s add a scarf! I took some material and ripped it to fray the edges. Then I just tied it around the snowman “neck” and made a real simple knot. You can add a little dab of glue here or there to hold your scarf in place.
Step 5: Hot glue two buttons on for eyes! I like to use smaller black buttons for this.
Step 6: Hot glue a nose onto the snowman. I used a wood bead that I paint orange. If you don’t have a wood bead you could paint a toothpick orange and use that.
Step 7: The very last step is to glue the black buttons onto frosty’s belly. I used larger black buttons for this.
