DIY Rustic Snowman Pillow
Let’s turn a simple star pillow into a rustic snowman with this easy DIY! This budget-friendly project uses a Target Dollar Spot find to create a unique winter decoration with primitive style. Let’s make one together!
Supplies:
- Small spray bottle of Water
- 1-2 tsp. instant coffee
- Fabric material (for the hat & scarf)
- Twine ( You can find it HERE on my affiliate link)
- Orange felt fabric for nose
- 2 small buttons for eyes
- 2 medium buttons
- Rosy blush
- Faux greenery & berries
- Rusty bell
- Wooden snowflake
- White paint
- Sandpaper
- Antique wax
- Mod Podge spray ( You can find it HERE on my affiliate link)
- White glitter

Step 1: (Optional) Grunge the Pillow For a Rustic Look
I added about 1-1.5 teaspoons of instant coffee to a spray bottle filled with water, shook that up really well and sprayed it all over my pillow to give it a primitive rustic look. If you don’t like this look, you can totally skip this step. I just happen to really like the light grunge look.
Once you spray it good on both sides, I recommend taking a hair dryer to speed up the drying time. You’ll want to make sure it’s good and dry before moving on to the next steps.

Step 2: Add the Hat
Once the pillow is dry, use a piece of fabric to make a hat by creating a little fold for the brim and wrapping it around one of the points of the star. I got my fabric at Hobby Lobby. I goofed up a little here but I would recommend moving the hat up just a bit more than what I have here to allow more space for the face. Use hot glue to secure it in place on the front of the star and the back, overlapping the fabric on the back to create the hat.
Next, cinch the fabric at the top point of the star, take some twine and tie the top of the hat. I like to add a little bow too. I cut off any access fabric and twine.

Step 3: Make the Nose
Next, we’re going to add a nose. I used a piece of orange felt and traced one of our laser cut wood snowmen noses onto it and cut it out. If you’re interested, you can grab a pack of our Snowman Noses HERE and use them for your craft projects and/or trace them onto other materials like this for your projects. To add a rustic finish, I sprayed some of the coffee water mixture and blow dried it.

Step 4: Create the Face
Hot glue the two eyes and the nose. I like to take a little rosy blush color and add small circles on the face to create rosy cheeks.

Step 5: Tie the Scarf
Next add the scarf. Tack it all in place with hot glue. You may have to adjust where it sits on your pillow as you go and glue that down. I took the ends of the scarf and pulled some of the threads out to keep the worn look.

Step 6: Add Embellishments
Then we are going to add some embellishments. I added some faux pine sprigs and berries and a rustic bell on the scarf. Also, I added a little more of the faux greenery and a little wooden snowflake I found at Hobby Lobby to the hat. I painted the snowflake white, let it dry, then lightly sanded off the edges, and rubbed on a little antique wax for a little rustic touch. Hot glue your embellishments in place.

Step 7: Add Buttons
Take your medium sized buttons and glue them down the center of your pillow.

Step 8: Make Your Project Sparkle
I decided I wanted my pillow to be glittery so I lightly sprayed my entire project with some spray Mod Podge and dusted it with glitter. I got mine at Walmart in the craft section. After adding some glitter, I sprayed it again with Mod Podge to seal it in a bit.

This turned out so cute and was super easy to make. Let me know if you plan to give this a try!
