DIY Rustic Wood Pumpkin Leaner | Easy Fall Craft

Hey friends, it’s Emily from Burlap Kitchen!
Today, I’m going to show you something really cute you can make with one of our pumpkin cutouts. This simple fall craft comes together in no time and adds the perfect rustic touch to your autumn décor.

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Pumpkin wood cutout
  • Scrap piece of wood (base)
  • Acrylic paint: Country Twill (for base), Toasted Terracotta (for pumpkin)
  • Waverly Antique Wax (for pumpkin stem)
  • Dixie Belle Antique Wax (for blending on base)
  • Blending tool or rag
  • Sanding block
  • Raffia
  • Fabric scrap (for bow)
  • Button
  • Stamps (Letters “F, A, L” to stamp “Fall”, and leaf design)
  • Ink for stamps
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • Scissors

Let’s get started!

Step 1: Paint and Prep the Base

Start with your scrap piece of wood and paint it in the color Country Twill (or something similar). Once dry, give it a quick sand to smooth it out and add a touch of rustic charm.

Add  a rough coat of Dixie Bell Antique Wax to the edges of your base, making it darker on the edges and blending it lightly towards the center. This brings this whole project together.

Step 2: Paint the Pumpkin Cutout

Paint the bottom half of the pumpkin with Toasted Terracotta and let it dry. Then, use Waverly Antique Wax on the stem for a warm, weathered look. Once the pumpkin is completely dry, lightly sand over it to give it a distressed finish.

Step 3: Antique the Base

With a blending tool (or your fingers, like I often do!), apply Dixie Belle Antique Wax around the edges of your wood base. Keep it darker on the edges and blend toward the middle for a soft fade that ties the whole piece together.

Step 4: Assemble the Pumpkin on the Base

Center the pumpkin cutout on your wood base and hot glue it in place.

Step 5: Make the Bow

First, tie a simple raffia bow. To give it more texture and a little extra pop, make a fabric bow from a scrap piece of material and glue the raffia bow right on top of it. Add a button to the center and hot glue the bow to your pumpkin. Trim the bow ends to your liking.

Step 6: Stamp and Finish

Using your stamps, add the word “Fall” to the base. If it ends up slightly off-center (hey, it happens!), you can get creative like I did and stamp a little leaf next to it to fill the space.

And that’s it! This little rustic pumpkin turned out so cute and was such a quick and easy fall craft to make. Let me know if you plan on giving this one a try—I love seeing your creations!
