If you have ever wanted a chalkboard easel but didn’t want to pay an outrageous amount for one then this craft is for you! I saw this sign at Dollar General the other day and immediately knew that’s what I wanted to do with it! Let me show you how easy it was to make! :

Materials:

  • Fall easel from Dollar General
  • sand paper
  • Chalk paint in the color of your choice ( I used teal and then dark grey to make it look chippy)
  • Black Chalkboard paint (This is different than chalk paint)
  • Paint brushes
  • Twine
  • staple gun

How to:

Step 1: First gently sand off and smooth down any raised words. Then take off the piece of material in the back that keeps the easel standing. We will use twine to reattach it at the very end.

step 2: Next, paint the frame and the back of the chalkboard in the paint colors of your choice. This took two coats of paint for me. I did skip some parts in the back that wont be visible but that’s up to you. I chose to use a teal colored chalk paint and then I dry brushed it with a dark grey to give that chippy wood look.

Step 3: Paint the center of the frame, where the wording was, with chalkboard paint. Be careful not to get it on the frame. You will want to add 3 – 4 coats of chalkboard paint. Make sure to let the paint dry in between each coat.

Step 4: The last step is attach a piece of twine to the back where the ribbon was. Make sure to staple on the thicker part of the frame or the staple will go threw to the front of the chalkboard. I made this mistake on my first one, LOL.

And that is it! I hope you enjoyed this super simple DIY!
