Dollar Tree Flower Gingerbread Man Decor
Whether you are on a budget or not, this Dollar Tree flower gingerbread man is adorable. I decided to use mine in a wreath, but you could also use him as a DIY ornament or a hanger. Since rustic Christmas decor is my jam I had to give him a weathered paint look. I will show you how you can achieve the same look below. First, let’s jump into the supplies you will need to complete this cute Dollar Tree Christmas craft.
Supplies:
- Wood flower cutout from Dollar Tree
- Stain ( If you like the weathered look)
- Old gloves & rag if you are staining
- Brown paint of your choice – I used Territorial Beige by Apple Barrel
- Sandpaper
- Ric Rac
- Distressing spray
- Black Sharpie
- Blush or pink paint and pouncer
- Ribbon
- Pine
- Buttons
- Tag
- Wire
- Drill
Step 1: Make sure you are in a well ventilated area and wearing gloves and stain the flower. Allow this to dry over night. If you do not wish to do the rustic/ weathered look you can skip step 1 & 3.
Step 2: Paint the Dollar Tree gingerbread man a color of your choice. I Chose this territorial beige color from Apple barrel paints. You may need 2 – 3 coats of paint as it is wood and wood seems to really suck in the acrylic paints. Allow to dry completely.
Step 3: Take a small piece of sand paper or sanding block and sand over the Dollar Tree flower. Again, you can skip this step if you are not into the weathered look.
Step 4: Cut ric rack long enough to lay a strip over the tip of each arm and leg with a little over-hang so it will tuck around the back. I used distressing spray to give mine a more rustic look. Glue into place using a hot glue gun. The cordless glue gun that I use is AMAZING! You can get one here on my affiliate link – CORDLESS HOT GLUE GUN
Step 5: Use a sharpie to draw the gingerbread mans face on. I used a regular fine point sharpie for this step.
Step 6: Use some blush and your pinkie and dap some cheeks onto the gingerbread man.
Step 7: Embellish your rustic Dollar Tree gingerbread man using ribbon, pine, buttons, and a coffee dyed tag. Instead of ribbon, I am using ticking. I found this fabric at Walmart and fell in love with it. I also found some on Amazon. You can get it here on my affiliate link – RED & WHITE STRIPPED TICKING
Step 8: Drill holes on the top of each arm and add wire for hanging. I am using this rusty wire from Amazon and its amazing for all those rustic projects. You can get some here on my affiliate link – RUSTY WIRE . I actually drilled the holes before I started decorating my gingerbread man, but either way will work.
Step 9: To hide the hole that was already drilled in this Dollar Tree flower I applied a layer of territorial beige mixed with some baking soda. Once dry I sanded over it. If you do not wish to drill holes in your gingerbread man you can always hot glue twine to the back instead.
