Dollar Tree Wood Star Makeover
Dollar Tree Wood Star Makeover
I am so in love with this Dollar Tree wood star makeover! This is actually my version of a craft my mom used to make. She used to cut her own stars out of plywood, but since dollar tree has these cute wooden stars I didn’t need to do that… thank goodness! These stars would make the perfect gift for family, friends, and even teachers. Let me show you how to make them!
Materials:
- Wood star from Dollar Tree
- White Acrylic paint
- White snow glitter
- Mod Podge
- paint brushes
- Pine pick ( I bought mine at Walmart)
- Ribbon
- Brown tag
- Christmas Stamp
- Red and white pipe cleaners
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
How to:
Step 1: First, paint the entire star with white paint and allow it to dry. Lay the star on a piece of wax paper and paint it with Mod Podge. While the Mod Podge is still wet, pour glitter all over the star, shake off the excess glitter onto the wax paper and pour it back into the glitter jar. Allow to dry and paint over the star with another layer of Mod Podge, this seals the glitter so it stays on the star and not all over your home. You can add up to two layers of Mod Podge if needed. Make sure you allow each layer to dry before adding another.
Step 2: Now it’s time to embellish. To do this I first made a candy cane out of pipe cleaners. I wanted my candy cane to be a little thicker so I twisted two red pipe cleaners together and then two white pipe cleaners together and then I twisted both the red and the white pipe cleaner together. Hope that made sense, LOL. I then took a brown tag and stamped it with a Christmas stamp. Once the stamp ink was dry I tied it to the pine pick and tied a bow on it. If the pick is too long you may want to trim it down some with wire cutters. I then hot glued the pine pick onto the star and the candy cane in to the pine pick.
