Easy Dollar Tree crate makeover

You all have been asking me what you can make with the free pintable’s we released a few weeks ago. Well, I have tons of ideas coming your way this week. The first one we’re going to make is this easy Dollar Tree crate makeover. I cannot get over how cute this turned out!

Materials needed:

  • Crate – Dollar Tree (it’s the larger one)
  • FREE printable
  • Left over morning coffee
  • Black paint – I used the color crazy crow from A Frayed Knot paint line
  • Mod podge
  • Cinnamon
  • Paint brushes
  • Floral foam – Dollar Tree
  • Greenery picks
  • Spanish moss
  • Batter operated candle – Walmart

How to:

Step 1: First, coffee dye your prints. To do this it is important to make sure they are completely dry, or the ink will bleed. Once you are sure they are dry (about an hour) soak them in some left-over morning coffee for about 10-15 minutes. Next, transfer them to a cookie sheet and bake in the oven on the lowest possible setting until dry. Do not forget about these as they will burn and possible catch fire!

Step 2: Now paint the Dollar Tree crate with some black paint. I am using the color crazy crow from the afraid not paint line. I love this color. It’s almost like a black, brown and perfect for primitive crafts. My create took about two to three coats of paint till I got it to look the way that I wanted it to.

Step 3: Once the crate dries, it is time to add the printable. The only printable that really fit on this crate was the farm fresh eggs printable. Which I thought was perfect for this craft. Just rip the edges around the printable and mod podged the back of the printable and stick it right onto the crate. Use a blow dryer or heat gun to help speed up the drying process.

Step 4: Next, take a foam brush and begin to apply mod podge in random areas of the crate. While the mod podge is wet sprinkle on some cinnamon. Allow to dry.

Step 5: Now you can start to dress this crate up some! Some green floral foam to the bottom of your crates and add a little Spanish Moss to the top. Arrange Some cute greenery pics into your foam and add a little more Spanish moss. If you have a battery operated candle you can add one to the center to make this craft extra cute.
