DIY Football Magnets

Fall is almost here and with that comes football season. I am not a fan of football, or any sports, for that matter but I do enjoy the atmosphere. I love hearing football games in the background while the smell of a hearty meal is in the air.. don’t tell my husband this, I wouldn’t want this to go to his head.

To kick off this year’s football season I thought I would make these cute little football magnets, aren’t they adorable? They are also a fun craft for the kiddos to make, although, depending on their age, they should not be the ones handling the hot glue gun..duh! The burn marks on my hands make me wonder if I should even be handling a hot glue gun (haha).

Check out the candy corn magnets I made last year! CANDY CORN MAGNETS

What you need:

The How To:

Step One: Break the spoons near the base. You may break a few trying to do this so make sure you have plenty of spoons, you can buy a pack at the dollar tree. Use a hot glue gun to carefully touch the base of the spoon where it broke off. This will make the sharp part of the spoon smooth.

Step Two: Paint the spoon(s) brown. You will need 3 coats of paint or at least I did. Make sure to allow each coat of paint to dry before you add another coat. (sorry for the fuzzy photo)

Step Three: Once the brown paint is completely dry paint the threads of the football on using the white puff paint. Allow to dry over night.

Step Four: I took some green yarn and glued it around the base of the footballs. This just covered up the sloppy ends and added a touch of color. Make sure to do your gluing in the back so you don’t see big globs of glue.

Step Five: Hot glue a piece of card board to the back of the spoon to build it up slightly. Then glue the magnet to the cardboard. If you don’t do this your magnets won’t stick due to the shape of the spoons.

That’s it! Easy as pie, right? =)
