Step 1: Download & Print Out Your Farmhouse Chicken Tag on Cardstock
First, download your Farmhouse Chicken Tag from your subscription portal. You can print it any size that will fit on your regular home printer paper or a local printing center near you. I printed this one on cardstock with my home printer. I recommend cardstock for this project because we’ll be gluing this one some cardboard and the thick paper will help with durability and reduce the risk of tearing when applying it to the cardboard. Once you have it printed out, carefully trip around the edge.

Next, gently fold the tag in half in the middle of the hole to carefully cut out the circle without creasing it too much.

Step 2: Trace Your Farmhouse Chicken Tag Onto Cardboard
I’m using cardboard for this, but you could also use wood. If you’re someone who has a jigsaw, you could definitely do that instead of cardboard. Either way is going to be super cute. I just traced the tag onto some cardboard, and then cut it out with my good sharp scissors. It’s easiest to cut out if you trace the tag long ways along the grain, too. If you go along the grain along the corrugates of the cardboard, it will cut much easier. Trace the circle cutout onto your cardboard as well and cut that out.

Step 3: Apply Your Printed Tag Onto the Cardboard
Once we get the cardboard cut to size, next, use mod podge and apply it to the entire piece of cardboard. Make sure you apply a generous amount so it sticks good to the cardstock paper tag. Line up the paper tag really well and stick it over top of the cardboard. Press it down well.

If you see a little bit of overhang of the cardboard or paper, that’s no big deal. Just wait a few minutes to make sure it’s good and dry and trim that off the excess with scissors.

Next, take some sandpaper and go around the edges just to kind of blend everything in.
Step 4: Make a Cardboard Faux Metal Ring
To add a faux metal ring to the hole of your tag, trace that circle again onto another piece of cardboard. Use a compass tool and draw a little bit of a bigger circle around your first circle. Cut the center out and the outer circle to make a like a faux washer.

Next, use some black paint and paint that entire cardboard ring and let that get good and dry. When it’s dry, use Mod Podge and apply a layer of that over your ring. While the Mod Podge is still wet, sprinkle some cinnamon on it and then go back over top of it with some more Mod Podge. This is going to give your cardboard faux ring a rust like look. Let that dry completely.

Step 5: Apply a Chippy Wood Painted Look to your Farmhouse Chicken Tag
Next, let’s add some details to our Farmhouse Chicken Tags. Dip the edge of a small palette tool it into black paint and go around the edges by pulling the paint across your tag vertically. Go up and down your project to get a chippy wood look.

When you go in the middle, you want to make sure the bottom of that is like, you don’t want much paint on the bottom when you do that. And then we’re going to go ahead and make sure it’s dry.
Step 6: Add the Faux Washer and Twine to your Tag
Next, hot glue that faux washer in place.

Then string your twine through the hole of your tag and tie a knot at the end. I got some of this thick twine from Dollar Tree. Make sure you leave a good amount of excess to do this because that knot takes up more rope than you think.

Step 7: Add your Finishing Details
Lastly, you can add your final details. I added some greenery and little white florals I got from Hobby Lobby and a cute little bow. For the bow, I got the fabric at Jubilee Fabrics and cut it into a long strip.

This project turned out so cute. Let me know what you think and if you plan to give it a try!
