Farmhouse Christmas Bells Door Hanger

Are you looking for a unique DIY decor to hang on your front door that is not a wreath? With this set of two wood blanks, you get two bells to craft something beautiful! You can craft them individually or together like I’m going to do to turn them into a super cute door hanger!

Supplies Needed:

Step 1: Stain the Bells

The first thing we’re going to do is cover these wooden bells with stain. I’m using the color “Early American”.

Once it’s stained, make sure it’s good and dry before the next step. You may want to let the stain dry overnight. I used my blow dryer for the sake of time for the video noted at the end of this tutorial.

Step 2: Paint the Bells

Next, I dry brushed both bells with some vintage white acrylic paint. I left the top circle part and the bottom of the bell without paint for now. I used my blow dryer to dry them quickly.

Then I took some metallic silver and painted the bottom of the bells with that.

Step 3: Add Glitter

Once I was done with that, I came in with some spray Mod Podge and sprayed everywhere on the bells where I wanted glitter and sprinkled the glitter to cover. Then I sprayed another layer of Mod Podge on top to seal it in. It keeps the glitter from shedding so much.

Step 4: Glue Bells Together

Next, if you are using two bells, use some strong glue to stack them together with a slight overlap. I used hot glue for this part but I recommend using something a little stronger like E-6000. I made sure that the wholes at the top of the bells lined up so I could string rope through.

Step 5: Add Embellishments

Then add your embellishment. I used some greenery and berries that I got from Hobby Lobby, tacking those down with hot glue.

I also used some wired ribbon (also from Hobby Lobby) that is double sided to make a bow. I’ve found this is the easiest to work with for bow making. I used a piece of craft pipe cleaner to hold that together; twist ties also could work well for that. Then I hot glued the bow to the center of the greenery on the bells.

To add the final touches, I dove-tailed cut the ends of the ribbon bow and added a few more berries tucked in.

Step 6: Add Twine for Hanging

Lastly I took some heavy twine I got from the Dollar Tree and strung it through the bells. I knotted the ends so I could hang it.

This is such a beautiful project and so easy to make. Let me know if you plan to give this a try!
