Farmhouse Style Pig Leaner | DIY Craft Kit Tutorial
Hey friends! Today we’re making the most adorable farmhouse-style pig! This project has all the cozy, rustic details we love — soft paint colors, a little grunge, and sweet embellishments that really bring this pig to life. Let’s jump in! (Video link at the end of this post.)

Materials You’ll Need
- Wooden pig cutout (you can grab yours HERE in our shop)
- Chalk paint: Blush (for the pig body & snout), and Truffle brown (for muddy texture)
- Acrylic paint: Black (for the feet), Teal blue (for the heart)
- Brown antique wax
- Black Dixie Belle antique wax
- Baby wipe (for applying wax)
- Sanding block
- Paintbrush
- Small paint sponge
- Sharpie Paint Effect marker (black)
- Extra-fine Sharpie marker
- Small palette knife or craft tool
- Hot glue gun + glue sticks
- Printed tag (from Burlap Kitchen printables or similar)
- Scissors
- Small hole paper punch
- Scrap fabric
- Faux greenery
- Rusty bell
- Decorative “sizzle” or shred filler
Step 1: Paint the Pig Body & Snout
Start by painting the pig body and snout with Blush chalk paint.
Next, use a regular paintbrush and apply an even coat. Let it dry completely, and add a second coat if needed for full coverage.

Step 2: Paint the Feet
Using black acrylic paint and a small sponge, paint the pig’s feet.
Then, dabbing with a sponge gives you great control and a softer finish. Set aside to dry.

Step 3: Paint the Heart
Next, paint the heart piece with a teal blue (or your favorite) color.
This pop of color adds so much personality! Let it dry completely before moving on.

Step 4: Distress & Grunge It Up
Once all painted pieces are dry:
Lightly sand the pig body, snout, feet, and heart using a sanding block
Apply antique wax to the heart to dull the brightness slightly, the pig’s body and snout for a rustic, aged look.
Let everything dry before continuing.

Step 5: Add the Face Details on Your Pig
Next, using a Sharpie Paint Effect marker, follow the engraved lines to add:
- Eyes
- Two dots on the snout (there are engravings to guide you)
Then use an extra-fine Sharpie to add small eyebrows for extra expression.
Hot glue the snout into place.

Step 6: Add Muddy Texture
To give the pig a fun, farmhouse “just played in the mud” look:
- Use Truffle chalk paint
- Apply it with a small palette knife or craft tool
- Dab it onto the pig’s face and ears for texture
Let this dry fully — it adds so much character!

Step 7: Attach the Feet to your Pig
Once dry, glue the feet to the bottom of the pig using hot glue.

Step 8: Prepare the Tag
Next, to make a rustic tag, cut out your printed tag and crumple it a few times to soften and age the paper.
Punch a hole at the top (even if it rips a little — rustic charm!).

Apply brown antique wax and black Dixie Belle wax to age the tag even more.

Step 9: Add the Scarf & Greenery
Next, cut a strip of fabric and tie it around the pig’s neck as a scarf.

Hot glue a small piece of greenery for brightness and texture on top.

Then add the tag and hot glue a rusty bell to the center — it also helps hide any imperfections.

Step 10: Final Embellishments
Then, trim the scarf ends. Next, hot glue some decorative sizzle. where you would like your pig’s heart to be.

Lastly, hot glue the heart piece right on top of the sizzle for a layered, finished look.
