Farmhouse Wood Cow Decor – DIY Tutorial

Hey there! I am so excited to be crafting with our Farmhouse Fun Box today, using the wood cow head to start! You can grab your own set of cute farmhouse wood cutouts for all sorts of creating crafting HERE. **Please note that the Box only comes with the wood cutouts and you will need to supply the rest of the materials for your own unique project.

The supplies you’ll need to follow along in this tutorial are here below. This is a quick and easy project — let’s get started!

Supplies:

Step 1: Paint the Wood Cow Head Front

First start by painting the entire cow head black. I dried that well with my hair dryer so I can move on to painting the white layer quicker.

Next, paint a thick white stripe down the center of the cow’s nose.

I made sure that was nice and dry. Then I mixed some white and pink paint to create a lighter pink for the ears. Using a sponge, pounce a little of that pink to the center of the ears.

Step 2: Sand Your Project

Once everything is good an dry, take some sand paper and rub it over your project and around the edges to give it that rustic look we all love so much! If this rustic is not you’re style, you can totally skip this step.

Step 3: Make a Bow

Next, let’s add a bow. I like to use my bow maker! It’s super easy to use and makes beautiful bows. For this project, I ripped some strips of cotton fabric to get the rustic frayed look. I added twine to my bow maker to tie the bow together, and layered a few folds of the fabric into the maker to make a simple cute bow.

Step 4: Add Embellishments

Here’s where you can really get creative and make something beautiful to match your own unique style!

Once you have your bow ready, hot glue it to the top center of your cow head. I trimmed up the bow’s tails on mine and frayed the ends a bit.

Next I add some greenery and flowers. I took a few sprigs of greenery from a garland I bought from Hobby Lobby and some beautiful dried baby’s breath flowers and hot glued everything in place.

I stained the “Hey Y’all” tag (also from our Farmhouse Fun Box) with some antique wax, tied a little piece of twine in it and hot glued it to the ear of my cow.

Step 5: Add Hanging Twine to Cow Head Backside

Lastly, to make this able to be hung, you can hot glue several inches of twine to the back of your project. Also hot glue a couple squares of scrap fabric on top of the ends to make it extra secure.

And we’re done! Let me know if you plan to give this project a try!
