How to create a DIY farmhouse style lighted porch pumpkin
Today, I am going to share with you all how to create a DIY farmhouse style lighted porch pumpkin. This beautiful fall DIY does require a little patience, but it is so worth it! I just love driving around seeing fall porch decorations, and this lighted pumpkin will definitely have some heads turning. How stunning would this farmhouse style DIY lighted pumpkin look for your front porch fall décor?!
Materials needed:
- Round clothes basket – Dollar Tree
- orange spray paint
- 6 rolls of orange burlap
- leaf picks
- stick
- raffia
- ribbon
- battery operated lights
Step 1. Using a round clothes basket from The Dollar Tree, spray paint orange, and allow to dry.
Step 2. This part is time consuming and requires patience, but is worth it. I used orange burlap for this project, and I used about 6 rolls of it.
Starting with the outer edge at the top of the clothes basket and working your way down the basket, take some orange burlap fabric and work it down the clothes basket, weaving it in and out of the basket holes. Just continue to keep weaving the burlap in and out, always working down the basket until the basket is completely covered with the burlap. Hot glue the fabric in place if there are any places where the basket may be showing. Then, use your fabric to cover the top of the basket by weaving in and out around the top circle to fill in the top with fabric. Be sure to use hot glue to cover any parts of the basket that may still be exposed with burlap fabric. Allow to dry.
Step 3. Using a bow maker (you do not have to use a bow maker, it just helps me), take some ribbon of your liking and make a big fluffy bow, be sure to leave long ends of ribbon so they can hang down over the pumpkin. Use a pipe cleaner to secure the bow.
Step 4. Take a big sturdy stick from your yard/nature, cut it so it is proportional in size to the pumpkin basket, and hot glue it to the top of the burlap fabric covered basket/pumpkin. Be sure to use lots of hot glue for this and press the fabric to the stick as well so it adheres securely.
Step 5. Take some raffia and tie it around the stem/stick of your pumpkin. Secure the raffia at the top of the stick/stem with hot glue. Allow some strands of raffia to hang down over the pumpkin.
Step 6. Hot glue the big fluffy bow to the top of your pumpkin, centering it in front of the stem/stick. Dove tail cut the ends of your bow ribbon.
Step 7. Take some fall leaf picks from The Dollar Tree and stuff them directly into the holes at the top of the pumpkin basket.
Step 8. Lastly, using some wired battery operated warm white lights, wrap them around the pumpkin a few times. Enjoy!
