How to create a farmhouse style wood pumpkin DIY using stencils from Magnolia Design Co.
Step 1: I purchased a round wood piece from the dollar spot section at Target, you may be able to find one of these at Hobby Lobby or Michaels as well, and painted it with white chalk paint. Use a heat gun to dry.
Step 2: Lightly dry brush “Crazy Crow” paint from A Frayed Knot over the pumpkin. Use a heat gun to dry.
Step 3: Using the “pumpkin patch” stencil purchased from Magnolia Design Co., place the “pumpkin” stencil onto the wood pumpkin along the top center, press the stencil down so it is completely flat on the wood pumpkin, and use a squeegee and black chalk paint to carefully paint the stencil onto the wood pumpkin. You will need to complete this process for the “pumpkin” part of the stencil, for the “patch” part of the stencil, and then for the stencil that goes at the bottom of the wood pumpkin that looks like an actual pumpkin patch. I cut the stencil in half between the words pumpkin and patch so it would fit onto my pumpkin, and just painted on one stencil at a time.
Step 4: Once you have used all your stencils, immediately rinse the stencils thoroughly so the chalk paint does not dry on them. These stencils are all from Magnolia Design Co., and are reusable up to 15 times if you take very good care of them.
Step 5: Using a stick, I found one outside, cut it to size, and then hot glued it onto the top center of the pumpkin to serve as the stem.
Step 6: Take some lambs ear, I got mine at Walmart, and hot glue a few of the leaves together in an overlapping pattern. Then, hot glue the lambs ear onto each side of the pumpkin stick stem.
Step 7: Take some raffia and hot glue it over the stem of the pumpkin, right in the center, being careful not to cover up the lambs ear.
Step 8: Using some check patterned ribbon, make a bow out of the ribbon using a strand of raffia. Then, hot glue your bow over the bottom of the stick stem. Be sure you can see the bow, lambs ear, and raffia.
Step 9: Hot glue a black button onto the center of your bow and enjoy this cute farmhouse style pumpkin using stencils from Magnolia Design Co.!
