How to create DIY candy corn using our fall patterns bundle

Today, I am excited to share with you how to create DIY candy corn using our fall patterns bundle.  I think candy corn is so cute and fun for fall decor, so I had to make this budget-friendly fall DIY.  I used our candy corn pattern from our beautiful fall patterns bundle available now on our website.  You can use these cute fall patterns to create gorgeous fall décor DIYs that are also budget friendly!

Materials needed:

How to:

Step 1.  Using our candy corn pattern from our fall patterns bundle, cut out the candy corn pattern with scissors.

Step 2.  Trace the cutout candy corn pattern onto some corrugated cardboard and cut it out using scissors.

*To corrugate cardboard, simply place your cardboard under warm water until it is saturated. This will loosen the glue, and it will then just peel apart.  Then, allow the cardboard to dry completely.

Step 3.  Using white chalk finished paint, I got mine at Lowe’s, dry brush the tip of the candy corn.  When I paint this pattern, I like to use the dry brush technique so that a tiny bit of the cardboard still shows through. Allow to dry.

Step 4.  Using A Frayed Knot’s paint in the color “Jack O’Lantern,” dry brush the middle of the candy corn orange.  Allow to dry.

Step 5.  Next, using yellow paint by Waverly, dry brush the bottom of the candy corn yellow.  Allow to dry. You could also use a heat gun to dry.

Step 6.  You will need about 10 paint sticks to create the backing for your candy corn.  Take about 7 paint sticks and stain them using Minwax stain in the color “Dark Walnut,” and cut the tips off of them.  Be sure to line them up evenly.  These stained paint sticks will act as a frame/board for your candy corn to go on.  Next, cut a few paint stick pieces so they are long enough to secure to the back of your 7 stained paint sticks frame/board.  Use a hot glue gun to secure the cut paint sticks to the back of your stained paint stick board/frame so it is even and secure.  Allow to dry.

Step 7.  Using white chalk finished paint, dry brush over the front of the stained paint stick board using a chip brush.  Allow t o dry.

Step 8.  Grab the small tag pattern included in the fall patterns bundle you purchased, and cut it out.

Step 9.  Trace the small tag you just cut out onto a brown paper lunch bag and cut it out using scissors.  Use a hot glue gun to glue together the pieces of the brown paper lunch bag from cutting out your tag.  Allow to dry.

Step 10.  Use a hole puncher to punch a hole through your tag.

Step 11.  Write “Candy Corn: on your tag.

Step 12.  Hot glue a piece of twine onto the back of the candy corn, wrap the twine around the candy corn a few times, cut the twine, and hot glue the twine down to the back of the candy corn.  Allow to dry.

Step 13.  Using twine, make a little bow out of the twine for the top of your tag.

Step 14.  Hot glue the “candy corn” tag onto your candy corn where you like.  Then, hot glue the bow onto the top of the tag, this way it will look like the tag was tied onto your piece of candy corn.

Step 15.  Apply a generous amount of hot glue to the back of your candy corn and adhere it to the paint stick frame/board.  Allow to dry.  Enjoy!
