How to make a simple spring door hanger from Dollar Tree bunny garland
Anytime you see something that would make a cute pattern snag it up! Thats what I did when I came across this Dollar Tree bunny garland. I just knew I could make something cute with it! I am just loving how this simple spring door hanger turned out! Let me show you how to make a simple spring door hanger from Dollar Tree bunny garland.
Materials:
- Round wood hanger – target dollar spot
- Bunny garland from dollar tree
- pencil
- sharpie
- Black paint – I love used the color crazy crow from the A frayed knot paint line and LOVE it!
- Different sizes of paint brushes – thinner ones are easer for outlining
- Different colors and sizes of ribbon
- twine
- hot glue gun and glue stick
- button
How to:
Step 1: Paint the r0und door hanger with white chalk paint, you may need two coats. Allow to dry. I also want to say that you don’t have to use a door hanger. If you can’t find one get creative! Here’s a few ideas for you: Scrap piece of wood, wood tag from dollar tree, embroidery hoops with drop cloth in them.
Step 2: One thing that I love about the Crazy crow chalky paint from A frayed knot is that it can double as antique wax. To do this just dip a chip brush into the paint, brush it off and apply to the painted door hanger. Allow to dry.
Step 3: Take one of the bunnies off of the garland and lay it in the bottom middle of the door hanger, trace with a pencil. Once you have traced it with a pencil then take the bunny off and go over the pencil lines with a sharpie. Now, you could just trace the bunny with the sharpie, however, I find that sometimes my hand slips while tracing. It’s much easier to clean up a pencil line than a sharpie line.
Step 4: Using a smaller paint brush begin to fill in the bunny with the crazy crow chalky paint. I used two different sized paint brushes for this. A small one to fill it in and a fine point brush to outline. Allow to dry.
Step 5: Once the paint is dry, take a sanding sponge over it. Doing this will help to soften and blend in any harsh paint lines. You can find sanding sponges at the dollar tree!
Step 6: Make a bow by layering different colors and sizes of ribbon. I find the Re-fabbed bow is the easiest!
Step 7: Hot glue the ribbon in place and glue a button in the center.
Step 8: Rip the cotton tail off the bunny garland and hot glue it to the bunny silhouette.
