When I was at the Dollar Tree the other day I bought a bunch of floral moss. I just really love the looks of it!  So for the next few weeks I will be doing a bunch of crafts using floral moss.. or at least that’s the plan. So if you follow me you may want to head to your local Dollar Tree and pick up a few bags of this type of moss.

For this craft you will also want to pick up a wooden birdhouse. My local dollar Tree did not have the style of birdhouse I wanted so I found these at the Dollar General. I suggest looking at your local Dollar Tree before heading elsewhere because that’s where they will be the cheapest.

Materials:

  • Kids Birdhouse ( I found this one at the Dollar General)
  • White chalk paint ( I like wavily brand from Walmart)
  • Waverly antiquing wax
  • Paint Brushes
  • Floral Moss ( You can find this at the Dollar Tree)
  • spanish moss
  • Hot glue gun & Glue Sticks

How to:

Step 1: The first thing you want to do is remove any stickers from the bird house and begin to paint it. Because the birdhouse I bought had a design on it, it required two coats of paint. Allow the paint to dry in between each coat.

(Below is a picture of what the birdhouse looked like before I painted it)

Step 2: Once the paint is dry you can antique the birdhouse if you wish. This step is completely optional but I personally love the antique look. To do this, I like to dip my brush in the antiquing wax and then brush most of it off on a paper towel. Brush your first few strokes somewhere less noticeable, like the back, until you get the hang of it.

Step 3: Once all the paint is dry you can then glue the moss on as you wish. I chose to glue floral moss on the top of the roof. I also put a little floral moss at the bottom of the birdhouse to add a pop of color. I then took small amount of Spanish moss and stuffed it in the opening to make it look like a birds nest.
