Paper Christmas Tree Ornament – Easy DIY Ornament
Hey, Friends! Today I am going to show you how to create an easy paper Christmas tree ornament. DIY ornaments are such a fun way to decorate the Christmas tree. I have been making a lot of paper crafts lately because not only are they simple, but super affordable. Let’s get started on this fun homemade paper ornament.
Supplies needed:
- 5 X 7 piece of paper ( You can make these as big or small as you’d like. I find that 5×7 is the perfect ornament size.)
- Rusty star ( You can get them here on my affiliate link- RUSTY STAR)
- Buttons
- greenery ( You can get this here on my affiliate link – GREENERY)
- white chalk paint
- Twine
- stick from the back yard ( cinnamon sticks would work, too!)
- hot glue gun & Glue sticks
Step 1:
starting at the short end of your paper, make a fold. Next, lift your paper up and make a fold going the opposite direction. Keep folding until you get to the end of your paper. You should have what looks like an accordion.
Step 2:
Open up your paper and lay it flat. Run a thin bead of hot glue along the top longer section of the paper. In the middle of the paper, walk the accordion in with your fingers and pinch the top until the glue dries. You should now have what looks like a Christmas tree.
Step 3:
Dip a small paint brush into some white chalk paint, off load some onto a separate piece of paper and begin to paint your star. This technique is called dry brushing. You do not have to paint the star, but I found the rusty star blended in too much against the brown paper bag. The bright white allowed a better contrast. Once the star is dry, set aside.
Step 4:
Clip some greenery off of a pick and glue it to the top point of the Christmas Tree. Allow the glue to dry.
Step 5:
Next, take the star that we dry brushed in step 3 and glue it over top the greenery.
Step 6:
Find some small buttons of your liking and begin to glue them randomly on your homemade Christmas Tree ornament. Once the glue is dry, take a heat gun over your tree to get rid of any glue strings. Make sure your heat gun is on a low temp. so it doesn’t melt the buttons.
Step 7:
Find a stick from your back hard and glue it to the back of your DIY Christmas tree ornament. This will act as the tree trunk.
Step 8:
Finally, take some twine and tie it in a knot to create a small loop. Glue the knot side to the top, back of your Christmas tree ornament. You now have a gorgeous homemade ornament you can decorate your Christmas tree with. Enjoy!
