This Picture frame chalkboard is a really cute way to decorate for Christmas this year. I love that I can put new sayings on it anytime I want. I call it a chalkboard because of the chalk stencils that can be used on it. Let me show you how fun this one is to make!

Materials:

  • Picture frame from Walmart – any size would like
  • Chalk paint in the color you would like – I used Holly Berry from A Frayed Knot paint line
  • ‘Chalkboard paint.. Since we have to use the shiny side you could probably get away with regular black chalk paint for this project.
  • Magnolia Design Co Stencils and/or Chalk pens
  • paint brushes
  • 2 Christmas picks
  • Ribbon
  • Bell or any embellishments you would like to use
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

How to:

Step 1: Take all the inserts out of the frame. You will not need any of the paper or cardboard inserts, although, the cardboard insert is nice to paint on. Clean the glass insert and paint one side of it with chalkboard paint. This will require about 3 coats. Make sure the paint is dry in between each coat. Set the glass aside.

Step 2: Paint the picture frame which ever color you chose. I am using the color Holly Berry from A Frayed Knot paint line. You will need about two coats of paint for full coverage. Make sure you dry the paint good in between each coat.

Step 3: Place the glass insert back in the frame with the shiny side exposed. If you watch my video, I explained that although I loved the flat side, it dug up the paint as I wrote on it with the chalk markers. If you are super in love with the flat side you could try using a sturdy piece of cardboard in place of the glass. Just know that you will probably have to touch the paint up every time you switch a stencil.

Step 4: You can now begin to embellish your frame. I am using two Christmas picks that I found at Walmart. I suggest applying your hot glue directly on the pick and then sticking it to the frame. I find that if you glue the frame and then apply the pick there is big globs of glue visible. I also added a simple bow and then hot glued a large silver bell in the middle of it.

Step 5: Theres so many cute things you can do from here. You could use some Magnolia Designs Company chalk pens and write out a Christmas menu for the dinning room. I also think it would be super cute to have your kiddos write their Christmas list on them! Magnolia Design Company stencils look super cute, too! They have so many cute ones this season!
