Popsicle Sticks Snowman Ornament | DIY Craft Tutorial
Who doesn’t love a cute handmade ornament for the holidays? Today, we’re making a popsicle sticks snowman ornament that’s as sweet as it is simple—perfect for adding rustic charm to your Christmas tree or gifting to friends and family. This budget-friendly winter craft comes together in no time, and the finished piece is absolutely adorable!
Supplies You’ll Need:
6 small popsicle sticks (4 for the body, 1 cut down for support, 1 cut down for brim of the hat)
Acrylic paint: Vintage White, Black, Skyline Blue (optional for snowflake), Toasted Terracotta (orange for the nose)
Christmas embellishment pack (nose, star, snowflake wood cutout pieces)
Antique wax
Blush (for cheeks)
Sharpie paint effect marker (black)
Sanding block
DecoArt Snow-Tex (or similar fake snow)
Spray Mod Podge
Glitter
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Twine or ribbon (for hanging)
Step 1: Build the Snowman Base
You’ll start with four small popsicle sticks for the snowman’s body. Lay them side-by-side, then cut down another popsicle stick and glue it across the back in two places to hold them together. This will keep everything nice and sturdy. Then, take one more popsicle stick and cut it down to size for the brim of the hat.

Step 2: Paint the Snowman and Hat
Flip your sticks to the front. Paint the bottom half with Vintage White Folk Art paint (I get mine at Hobby Lobby—it’s my favorite white paint). Paint the top half black to create the hat. Paint the extra stick you cut for the brim black too.

Step 3: Sand and Antique
Once your paint is completely dry, lightly sand the whole piece with a sanding block. Then, use your fingers to apply a bit of antique wax over the edges for a rustic, worn-in look.

Step 4: Add the Hat Brim
Glue the black popsicle stick horizontally across the snowman’s “forehead” area to make the hat rim.

Step 5: Create the Face
From the Christmas embellishment pack, grab the nose and paint it Toasted Terracotta. Sand it, then add antique wax. Before gluing it down, place it where you want it and use a Sharpie paint effect marker to draw the eyes. Once dry, glue on the nose. Add white paint dots in the eyes for a sweet touch, then use the Sharpie again to draw a dotted mouth. Apply a little blush to the cheeks.

Step 6: Embellish with a Snowflake and Star
Paint your snowflake Skyline Blue (or white if you prefer). Sand and antique it, then glue it in place. Paint the star, sand, antique, and glue that on as well.

Step 7: Add Snow and Glitter
Using DecoArt Snow-Tex, dab snow randomly across the snowman for a wintry effect. Spray with Mod Podge and sprinkle glitter over the top for that frosty sparkle.

Step 8: Add the Hanger to your Popsicle Sticks Snowman Ornament
Flip the ornament over and hot glue a loop of twine to the back for hanging.

And that’s it—your popsicle stick snowman ornament is ready to make your tree extra charming this winter!
