Broccoli & Hash Brown Casserole
Broccoli & Hash Brown Casserole When I first started Burlap Kitchen I had no idea what I was doing. I still don’t, but I have learned a lot since starting this blog back in early 2014. I still have a long way to go, but I’m a firm believer in that old saying, “fake it till you make it!” So, until I make it, I will keep watering my dream until I blossom into the creative blogger I dream of being. As I sit here thinking about some of the recipe photos I’ve posted in the past I have to chuckle. Mostly because if I don’t, I’d probably cry from…

White Mountain Cake with Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting
White Mountain Cake with Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting I’m a little behind this month so thankfully I found this recipe that I had never posted this past summer. This recipe is for White Mountain Cake. This cake is very special for me for two reasons. Firstly, this cake recipe comes from a long time family friend who passed away a few years ago. His name was John but everyone called him Jack. He suffered from a stroke when I was a teenager and I’d go to visit him in the nursing home often. I’d always sneak in a coffee and donuts. The stroke had left him unable to speak correctly.…

Semi-Homemade Pepperoni Pizza
Semi-Homemade Pepperoni Pizza Pizza has always been one of my favorites. It’s true what they say! “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” This is very true because my son loves pizza as well! I got the kiddos to help me with this recipe because they love pizza, and pizza is such a fun thing to make if you are teaching your kids how to cook. I love knowing that when I make this recipe, there will be none of the “I don’t want this!” arguments regarding what we are going to eat! Another fun idea is to serve this pizza with a mini salad bad. You can give…

Chicken Corn Soup Casserole
Chicken Corn Soup Casserole A good portion of this month will be filled with ribbon noodles and casseroles. We’re continuing with this chicken corn soup casserole. Chicken corn soup is one of my absolutely favorite soups to eat in the winter. There’s nothing quite like coming in after being out in the chilly air to a nice warm bowl of chicken corn soup! As a kid, I remember how my Granny Griffy would make chicken corn soup every year on the first day of trout season. I remember walking in and seeing her cooking with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth and the ashes a mile long! My mom…

Cheesesteak Casserole
Cheesesteak Casserole September and October are filled with fairs and festivals! I love how the smell of food just lingers in the air as soon as you arrive at one of these events. My go-to choice is usually pizza and some sort of fried dessert like Fried Oreos or a yummy funnel cake. My husband, on the other hand, usually heads straight for the cheesesteak line. He loves to get his cheesesteaks loaded with peppers, onions, mushrooms and lots of mayonnaise. In fact, there’s normally a glob of mayo running down his hand once he’s finished. Isn’t it so funny how when you are in the dating…

Stuffing Balls
Stuffing Balls Making this stuffing ball recipe really reminds me of when my Nana was still around for the holidays. I remember how as soon as I walked into her house at Christmas, I’d be bombarded by her four dogs and the amazing aroma of turkey and stuffing wafting from the kitchen. I also remember how Nana would greet me with a kiss, and how as soon as she walked away, Pap would ask me if I wanted a beer. Of course, I always said no, though sometimes it may have helped me deal with my family’s craziness! Just kidding! I absolutely love my family and truly enjoy being around…

Pumpkin Cake
If you have been following me for a while, you may already know that of my love for all things fall! I literally love EVERYTHING about this season! Comfy sweatshirts, beautifully arranged mums sitting on porches, and especially pumpkin! Every year I get excited for the announcement that Dunkin Donuts is finally serving their pumpkin flavored coffees! Just give me this pumpkin cake and some Dunkin Donuts pumpkin flavored coffee and I’ll be a happy camper! A few weeks ago I was hungry for pumpkin cake and decided to turn one of my favorite recipes, White Mountain Cake, into a pumpkin cake recipe! The recipe for White Mountain Cake came…

Cream Cheese,Garlic, & Veggie Bagel Spread
This spread has become a staple in our home. My husband has been asking me to make it constantly. Thankfully, it's super easy to make so I don't mind. And, if I'm being honest, I've been craving it just as much as he has!

Lemon Blueberry Crumb Cake
Memories of Nana When my Nana passed away, she left me all of her recipes. These ranged from cookbooks to handwritten cards with notes on the back which are so exciting to read. These recipes are very special to me. I love that when I open them, they still smell like her house. It makes me feel like even though she has passed, she’s still with me in the kitchen. Every time I open the recipes I can still see my Nana walking around the kitchen in her Clark’s slippers. There are so many things that I still remember about her. The way she’d wave her neatly manicured hands in…

Feta & Balsamic Steak Tacos
Feta & Balsamic Steak Taco I really should be cleaning right now, but instead, I am dreaming up new ideas for taco recipes. At this point, the scent of tacos may be ingrained into the walls of my home. Perhaps that is why I wake up in the middle of the night craving tacos? The scent is so powerful that I think I am waking up to a delicious taco meal. Sadly, that has yet to happen. However, when I’m not dreaming of tacos, I am testing out and photographing new taco recipes. One of the creations I made were these amazing Feta & Balsamic Steak Tacos. My family may…
