Scrap Wood Photo Block

Pin me! – Pinterest

This year for Christmas I plan on making little gift baskets for friends and family. These scrap wood photos are going to be the perfect, inexpensive gift to add to each basket. I have tons of scrap wood down in my garage and I buy Mod Podge in bulk. I decided to use chalk paint because I prefer the looks of it, but I think you could totally get away with using acrylic paints too. Not only are these easy to make but they also are quick to make. Let me show you how!

Materials:

  • Piece of scrap wood
  • Black & white photo that has been printed on regular printer paper
  • White chalk paint ( or whatever color you wish)
  • paint brush
  • sanding block
  • Mod Podge
  • foam brush

How to:

Step 1: Paint the scrap wood and let it dry. Once it has dried, take a sanding block over it making sure to get the corners extra good.

Step 2: Cut the photo to the size you want. I wanted this one a little smaller than the wood block so the white part of the wood was visible. Using a foam brush, paint a thin layer of Mod Podge on the wood and press the picture on where you want it. Use your hands to gently smooth out any bubbles. Allow to dry. After it has dried apply another thin coat of Mod Podge over the entire front piece of wood. Allow to dry over night.

That’s it! These scrap wood photos are really that simple! I like to just sit them on a shelf but you could also add a picture hanger to the back if you want to hang them.
