Speckled Farmhouse DIY Ornament

Hi friends!  Today, I am going to share with you all how to make a speckled farmhouse DIY ornament.  This beautiful farmhouse style Christmas tree ornament was such a simple holiday DIY to create.  All that is really needed to make this cute Christmas tree ornament craft is some clear glass ornaments from the store; most of the other items you probably already have in your crafting stash!  This gorgeous farmhouse inspired Christmas tree ornament is also a budget-friendly Christmas DIY.  Wouldn’t these cute DIY ornaments make for the most beautiful Christmas trees?!

Supplies Needed:

  • Clear plastic light bulb
  • Black chalk paint
  • White chalk paint
  • toothbrush
  • ribbon of your choice
  • greenery
  • Hot glue gun & Glue sticks ( I use this cordless hot glue gun and it is amazing! You can get one here on my affiliate link – CORDLESS HOT GLUE GUN

Step 1.  Take a clear, plastic or glass (I would prefer to do this with plastic), Christmas ornament bulb, remove the very top piece of the bulb that is used to loop through ornament hooks or strings, and paint the bulb with black chalk paint using Waverly brand chalk paint in the color “ink.”  Apply two coats of black chalk paint to the bulb, allowing the paint to dry between each layer.  A chip paint brush works best for painting this bulb.  Allow bulb to dry completely.  *If you are using a glass bulb, be very careful if drying with a heat gun as it could cause your glass bulb to shatter.

Step 2.  Once your bulb is completely dry, take a toothbrush and use your index finger to gently flick some white chalk paint in random spots all over your bulb.  Be sure to dry it before doing the other side of the bulb or else your paint will smear.  Allow to dry completely.

Step 3.  Next, take some buffalo check ribbon, or any ribbon of your liking, and tie it in a simple little bow.  Trim the ends off of the bow if they are too long.

Step 4.  Take some greenery of your liking, trim it to size to fit your bulb, and hot glue it to the top of your bulb, one piece on each side of the DIY ornament.  *Be sure to hold each piece of greenery in place until you are sure it has adhered to the top of the bulb, otherwise it may not hold that well.  Trim away any excess greenery.

Step 5.  Using some berries from a berry pick I had on hand, hot glue some red berries onto the top of each side of the bulb, over top of your greenery you added.  Again, be sure to hold the berry pick into place until it is dry and has adhered to the DIY ornament, otherwise it may fall off.

Step 6.  Use a big clump of hot glue and glue your ribbon bow over top of the top of the bulb.  Using a big clump of glue under the bow will help to hold all of the greenery, berries, and the bow all into place.  Again, hold the bow until it is completely dry and secured to the top of the bulb.

Step 7.  Add the small ornament top/cap that you removed in Step 1 back onto the top of your bulb.  Then, using the same ribbon you used to create the fabric bow, loop it through the small hole on the cap of the ornament, and then hot glue it together so you are able to hang the ornament on your Christmas tree.  Hold the ribbon in place until it dries.

Step 8.  Once dry, add the cute DIY Christmas ornament to your Christmas tree!
