Thrift store welcome sign makeover
If you are on a budget, or even if you’re not, thrifting is the way to go! You can find so many cute pieces! Some look cute as is and others need a little TLC, like this welcome sign. I paid $4.99 for this and it wasn’t much to look at at first. After giving it a few coats of paint I am totally in love! This $4.99 sign now looks like an expensive farmhouse sign I would buy at a craft store.
When I go thrifting, I love to look for anything that is made of wood like, signs, baskets, candle sticks, shelves, etc. Wood is so easy to work with and the transformation is normally almost unbelievable. Just like this thrift store welcome sign makeover. I am totally in love with this one!
Wondering how to create a thrift store makeover such as this? Let me show you just how simple it is!
Materials:
- White chalk paint
- Black chalk paint – I am using the color crazy crow from @A Frayed knot! I love her paints!
- paint brushes
Step 1: The first thing I did was painted the entire wood sign with two coats of white chalk paint. I made sure it was dry in between each coat. Using an old hair dryer or a heat gun will help to speed up the drying process.
Step 2: Next, I took the crazy crow paint and painted around the rim of the sign and also the letters. Because the rim and letters are raise, this was fairly easy to do! I just made sure to take my time with it. I also went around and touched it up with paint any where I messed up. Using a fine tip paint brush helped with this!
And that is it! It was literally that simple! Below is a picture of it all finished. I wasn’t able to hang it just yet so I just propped it on the trim above my door to take a picture for you. I’m actually not too sure where I want to hang it just yet. Who knows, I may even save it and give it as a gift. This turned out so cute for only spending $4.99, don’t you think?
