Thrift store wood plate makeover

I really enjoyed making this heart plate on live with you all the other night! I wanted to type up the how-to instructions just incase you come across a wooden plate of your own. I found mine at a thrift store for only .25 cents! I will definitely be looking for more of these because I now have so many ideas for them!
Before getting started I have to apologize for the lack of pictures. Because this was a thrift store find, I only had one plate to work with. I am going to do my best to explain the how-to as thorough as possible. If you have any questions please feel free to message me via facebook and I will do my best to answer.
Materials:
- Wood plate from thrift store
- white chalk paint
- red acrylic paint
- Waverly antique wax
- sanding block
- paint brushes
- heart pattern ( I made my own!)
How to:
Step 1: The first you will want to do is to clean up your plate good. Once it is clean you can paint it with a layer of chalk paint. I used Waverly chalk paint in the color plaster for this project. Allow the paint to dry.. a blow dry will help to speed up the drying process!
Step 2: Once the paint is dry begin to scuff up the plate with a sanding block. Pay special attention to the rim as that’s where it would naturally scuff up first.
Step 3: Cut a heart shape out of a piece of cardboard and trace it onto the middle of the plate with a pencil. Very carefully outline the heart with the red apple barrel paint and then begin to fill it in. If you wish, you can then take your sanding block lightly over the heart.
Step 4: Dip your paint brush into the antiquing wax, wipe most of it off onto a paper towel, and begin to paint the plate. Take y0ur first couple strokes over the rim where the plate would naturally fade first.
