Anytime I do a home project I always save all the scrap pieces of wood. There’s so many fun crafts that can be done with them! Like this USA Wood block shelf sitter. This is such a fun way to spruce up your home for the 4th of July.

Materials:

  • Block of wood that is about 7 inches long
  • White and Blue Chalk paint (you can find the recipe I used HERE)
  • Sanding block
  • Waverly antiquing wax
  • old rag
  • paint brushes
  • Wooden Star embellishment
  • Sticker letters from Dollar General
  • Scrap piece of fabric or wide ribbon
  • raffia
  • button

How to:

Step 1: Paint the entire wood block with the Waverly antique wax. To do this, brush it on with a paint brush and then wipe it off with an old rag. It is important that you allow the wax to dry before moving on.

Step 2: Place the wooden star where you want it on the wood block but do not glue it down. Take the Dollar General stickers and spell out USA the way you want it to look. Run the blow dryer over the letters, this will help them to stick better.

Step 3: Paint the entire bock with white chalk paint. When painting over the letters just be gentle so you don’t pull them up with your paint brush. Allow to dry and apply a second coat of paint, allow to dry.

Step 4: Once the paint is dry take a sanding block over the entire block of wood. Make sure to rough up the  corners and edges good. You can then peel the USA stickers off. Once you peel them off you can sand over them as well.

Step 5: Paint the wood star blue and allow it to dry. Once it is dry you can rough it up with a sanding block and apply some antique wax to it. Allow to dry and glue in place.

Step 6: Cut a smaller star out of red material (check your scrap fabric bin!) and glue it to the top of the blue star.

Step 7: For the final touch, hot glue a raffia bow above the USA. You can take a button and add it right to the center of the raffia bow.
