Valentine’s Day DIY Reversed Canvas

Hey there, friends! I am thrilled to share with you how I made this Valentine’s Day DIY reversed canvas. Reversed canvases have become quite popular for creating adorable and unique decor pieces, and this Valentine’s Day-themed project is no exception!

I absolutely loved creating this DIY Valentine’s Day reversed canvas craft, and the best part is that it was incredibly simple to make. Not only that, but it is also a super affordable project that anyone can try their hand at.

For this particular DIY, I chose to use a charming red and white checked fabric as the backdrop for my Valentine’s Day decor. The combination of colors gives it a lovely festive touch that perfectly captures the spirit of the season.

Imagine how cute this piece would look as a shelf sitter or hanging on your wall during the Valentine’s Day season! It adds an instant touch of charm and warmth to any space.

So why not give this DIY project a try? You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to create your own personalized Valentine’s Day decor using a reversed canvas technique. Let your creativity shine through as you put together this delightful craft!

Stay tuned as I walk you through the step-by-step process of making this adorable Valentine’s Day reversed canvas. Get ready to impress your loved ones with your crafting skills while adding some love-filled ambiance to your home!  Here’s how:

Materials needed:

Step 1.  Purchase an 8×10 canvas that has a wooden frame, flip it over, and then use an exact-o knife to carefully cut around the staples along the back of the canvas.

Step 2.  Once cut free from the staples, remove the canvas piece from the wooden frame, so you are left with just a wooden frame for your project.

Step 3.  Next, take a piece of cardboard, trace the frame onto the cardboard going around the outer most edges of the frame, and then cut it out so that the cardboard piece sizes up perfectly over the back of the frame. Set the cardboard piece aside for now.

Step 4.  Apply some stain of your liking around the wooden frame.  I used Waverly antique wax.  I like to use a baby wipe to apply the stain onto this project and then wipe it off.  This will add a more rustic look to the final project.  Allow the stained wooden frame to dry completely.

Step 5.  Take the cardboard piece and cover it with a fabric of your liking.  I used a red and white checked fabric.  Use Mod Podge to secure the fabric onto the cardboard piece and then allow the fabric covered cardboard piece to dry and trim away any excess fabric hanging over the edges of the cardboard.

Step 6.  Use hot glue to secure the fabric covered piece of cardboard onto the back of the stained wooden frame.  Allow this to dry. Now you have a wooden frame with a cute fabric backing showing through the front of the frame.

Step 7.  Trace a heart (make sure it fits into the wooden frame) onto a piece of material of your liking, I just used a simple white piece of batting I got at Hobby Lobby, and cut it out.  Then, secure the cut-out fabric heart in the center of the frame using hot glue.  Press it down into place and allow it to dry.  Enjoy!
