Winter Wood Block Mitten Décor Shelf Sitter – Craft Tutorial
For this craft tutorial, we’re going to make a winter wood block mitten décor shelf sitter! It uses a block of wood and a few elements from our Christmas Fun Box! This is such cute and fun project that can be enjoyed as winter decor all season long. It also makes for a beautiful hostess gift for friends and family, a special touch that you can DIY!
Supplies Needed:
- Wood Mitten cut out from our Christmas Fun Box
- Wood Snowflake also from our Christmas Fun Box
- 2×4 Wood Block
- Wavery Antique Wax and baby wipes
- Acrylic Paint (red and white)
- Dixie belle antique wax ( You can find it HERE on my affiliate link)
- Snow-Tex ( You can get it HERE on my affiliate link)
- Glitter
- Two small wood blocks
- Faux pine and berries (or other embellishments)
- Sandpaper
Step 1: Add Antique Wax to 2×4 Wood Block Base
The first thing I did was took some Waverly Antique wax and just antiqued the entire block with a baby wipe.

Step 2: Paint the Mitten Décor Red
Once it was dry, then I used one of the mittens from our Christmas Fun Box. Our Christmas Fun box has a whole bunch of fun Christmas themed cutouts like this for you to craft with. I just painted that with some Flamenco red and gave it a good dry.

Step 3: Sand & Add Antique Wax to the Mitten Décor
Next I sanded it to give it that rustic look. Then I used my Dixie Bell antique wax to go around the edges and then over the entire mitten to add some rustic character.

Step 4: Paint the Mitten Cuff White and Add Snowtex
Once I got that done, then I used some white paint and I painted the top part of the mitten, the cuff. Next I added some Snow-tex, but I wanted to add the white paint in case it would flake off. Once that was dry, then I added my Snowtex. This can be a little bit tricky to apply sometimes. The best way for me to explain it is like putting icing on a warm cake. So you do have to kind of play around with it until you get it to look the way that you want.

Step 5: Add Glitter
While the Snow-tex is still wet, I added some glitter, lots of glitter actually. And then I gave it a good dry.

Step 6: Stain Small Wood Blocks
Next I used two tumbling blocks from Dollar Tree, stained them, and let them dry well.
Step 7: Attach Mitten Décor to Wood Blocks
Then I hot glued the two small blocks to the back of the mitten. You can see how I glued those down; one block near the end of the fingers area and another just below the cuff area. This will allow some room at the top of your mitten project to add some embellishments as if they were stuffed into the mitten. Next, add more hot glue on top of the blocks to be able to glue it down to the 2×4 wood block, keeping in mind to glue it to the lower part of the block where it will sit as decor.

Step 8: Add Embellishments
Next it’s time to add some embellishments! I came in with some pine and faux berries and you can really embellish this however you want. Stick them in behind the mitten and hot glue them in place.

After looking at it, I thought it looked a little too plain for me, that it needed a little something extra. So I went back to the Christmas Fun Box and decided on a snowflake. I do think that star would have looked cute too so let me know what you think. I gave the snowflake two coats of paint, made sure it was nice and dry, and then hot glued it onto my mitten.

Step 9: Sand Edges (Optional)
Once that was on, then I came in with some sandpaper and just went around the edges of my 2×4 block to soften the edges and add to the rustic look. This project turned out so cute! Let me know if you plan to give this one a try!
